must be 通常表示推测,此时的must表示“一定”。如:

Jane’s light is on. She must be at home. She can’t be out. 简的房间里开着灯。她一定在家,不会出去的。
That can’t be the only way. There must be other ways of solving the problem. 那不是解决问题的唯一办法,肯定有另外的办法。

must be 有时也不一定表示推测,而是表示“必须”。如:
A car must be insured. 汽车必须投保。
There must be no doubt about this. 这一点不能含糊。
Water must be pure if it is to be drunk. 水如供饮用必须净化。
Loyalty must be earned. It can’t be bought. 忠诚必须靠自己赢得,它是买不来的。
You must be working when the inspector comes in. 检查员进来时你必须在工作。
Something must be done to stop these accidents. 必须采取某种措施以防止这些事故。
