If you have forty winks, you have a short sleep, or a nap.

E.g. If I have a late night I sometimes catch forty winks on the train on the way to work.

If you give a ballpark figure or a ballpark estimate, you give a number which you think is fairly close to the actual one.

E.g. We don’t know the exact cost, but a ballpark figure would be around six million dollars.

If someone has a one-track mind, they spend most of their time thinking about one subject.

If you do something against all odds, or against all the odds, you do it even though there were many problems and it didn’t seem possible to do.
如果你做某事极为不利或有极大的困难,那表示虽然有很多困难但你还是要做这件事,不过这件事似乎看起来不可能做到的样子。
E.g. No-one thought we could do it but, against all the odds, we won the Olympic gold medal.

5. back to square one
5. 从头再来;回到原始状态
If you have to go back to square one, you have to stop and start again, usually because something isn’t working as well as expected.

E.g. We were going to start the new company next month, but it’s back to square one now that Omar has changed his mind about investing in it.

If you’re behind the eight ball, you’re in a difficult or dangerous position.

E.g. The economic recession has really put our new business behind the eight ball. Nobody’s spending money.
例:经济萧条确实使我们的新生意处于困境之中。没有人花钱消费。
7. dressed (up) to the nines
7. 打扮的漂亮,穿着整齐(非正式用语)
If you are dressed to the nines, or dressed up to the nines, you are wearing very smart clothes for a special occasion.
如果你打扮漂亮或整齐,那是指你为了某个特殊场合穿着很精致地衣服。
E.g. Have you seen Harry? He’s dressed to the nines and he looks amazing.
例:你看到哈里了吗?他穿着整齐看起来很赞。
